This is the beginning of what we hope will be an ever-growing collection of teacher resources for teaching students to write effectively. These sequences of instruction are all solid Writing for Understanding standards-based units that will be directly useful to teachers as they work with their own students in their own schools. Written by teachers and for teachers, the resources use slightly different formats – but all are backward designed to help students show strong content understanding in effective writing that addresses writing standards. Most contain “close reading” sequences as well as a “test drive” – a teacher-written sample of what the final student writing piece might look like.
